Worldwide, the best and most well known VoIP company would be Skype. Skype is a free download and can be used for free for Skype to Skype phone calls. You can also sign up (for a fee) to be able to call normal phone numbers either from your PC or from a phone (when you buy the correct hardware).
If you live in Australia the best company would be MyNetPhone offering no contract phone setups with cheap call fees for local and international. The plans will give you more options and greater savings compared to your normal home phone.
